MANDYA: Controllerate of Inspection Electronics (CIL) clinched the men’s title in the State Games volleyball event at the Sir M. Vishwaswaraiah Stadium here on Saturday. CIL derailed Railways with a 25-23, 26-24, 23-25, 25-22 verdict. Much was expected of the Railway men but they failed to fire as international Somnath Girigowda and Imtiaz Ahmd were effectively blocked out even as Chandrasekar unleashed a string of steep smashes. Just when Somnath seemed to find his bearings, he suffered a bad fall and limped off the court in the fourth set to add to the Hubli side’s woes. MEG won nine out of the 11 boxing titles at stake. Bad day for KSPKSP had a miserable day on the kabaddi courts, losing both the finals. KPTCL’s Kiran, with a ‘golden raid’, won the men’s title for his side 6-5 after the teams were tied 5-5. In the women’s final, Mangalore SC shocked the fancied Police women 5-3, via the tie-breaker.
