Nixon (19) and Prasad (16) shone for the winner, while Mahesh (25) played gallant ly for the loser.

Mysore won the men’s title in the hockey tournament. In a keenly contested match, Mysore ran up two goals in quick succession through Hemachandra Raju (11th) and Vinod (16th). The home team held on to the lead till Taranath (44th) pulled one back for Hassan. The visitor had to be content with the silver medal. In the match for the third and fourth place, Hubli beat Gadag 2-1.

Herculean tussle
