14 remanded for violence

NEW DELHI: A court here on Monday sent to judicial custody 14 persons who had been arrested on charges of attacking the Communist Party of India (Marxist) office in the Capital on Sunday.

The police produced the 14 accused, including a woman, before Metropolitan Magistrate Sudesh Kumar, who remanded them to judicial custody.

Meanwhile, the court has reserved orders on a bail petition by the accused which was moved simultaneously by their counsel.

Unlawful assembly

The police have charged the accused with rioting, unlawful assembly, obstructing public servants in discharge of their duties, causing grievous hurt and using criminal force to deter public servant from his duty, mischief causing damage and mischief committed after preparation made for causing death or hurt. On Sunday, BJP-RSS activists had stormed the CPI (M) headquarters on Bhai Veer Singh Marg in New Delhi and attacked party workers. The mob had also damaged vehicles of some senior CPI (M) leaders.
