National Media Fellowships given

NEW DELHI: Stating that the role of the print media was to bring the problems faced by people at the grassroots level to the decision makers, National Foundation for India chairman Kiran Karnik said the power of newspapers continues to be strong.
He was speaking at a function to confer the 2007-08 National Media Fellowships and the 2008 C. Subramaniam Fellowships on journalists, voluntary sector workers and community leaders. Delivering the keynote address, Indian Express Editor-in-Chief Shekhar Gupta said it was of paramount importance that the Government works within the parameters of the Constitution. C. Subramaniam Fellowships in the voluntary sector category went to Basanti Bahn, Mustaque Ahmed, Mukti Rani, Ramlakhan Bharti, while Aniruddha, Shipra Devi and Santoshi Verma received it in the community leader category. National Media Fellowships were given to Geetashree, Indramani, Kavitha Iyer, Bonnie Konyark, Aloka Kumari, Sarada Lahangir, R. Uma Maheshwari, Alok Putul, Abhilasha Tiwari, Mustafa Quraishi and Shekhar Soni.
