HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy figures that the byelection to fill vacancies in 18 Assembly and four Lok Sabha constituencies will be held along with the Karnataka Assembly polls that are likely to be ordered in the month of May. Giving an indication to this effect to Ministers at a meeting of the Cabinet on Monday, Dr. Reddy asked them to ensure effective coordination between the leadership and the Congress party cadre in the run up to byelections. The Chief Minister told them with a touch of sternness that they must be prepared to “face the repercussions” if they did not facilitate such coordination. Dr. Reddy was learnt to be particularly unhappy at the way some Ministers behaved at the constituency level meetings on Sunday asking “how can they take the cadre along if they lose their cool”. He assured the Ministers that the constituency development fund of the MLAs as well as the funds assured for development works at mandal level would be released shortly. The Ministers should ensure in coordination with senior party leaders that the development works proposed in the constituencies that were going to polls, were started without any delay. The finer details of the strategy would be worked out at the meeting of the District Congress Committees scheduled to be held at Gandhi Bhavan on March 19.
