Meeting on CBCS and cluster college concept

COIMBATORE: A meeting on Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) and cluster college concept was held at the Bharathiar University recently.

According to a release from D. Rudrappan, Joint Director of Collegiate Education, Coimbatore Region, the meeting was held in pursuance of the Higher Education Minister K. Ponmudy’s proposal to launch the same.

He said the CBCS would involve a set of core courses that the student must complete to get the degree. He would be allowed to select a set of allied courses. In addition to these, he would be given the freedom to choose a skill-based elective course that would improve the scope of his employability.

G. Thiruvasagam, Vice-Chancellor of Bharathiar University, speaking in favour of the CBCS, underlined the freedom the student would have in designing his own curriculum to suit his needs.
