COIMBATORE: Extension officials of the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University were urged to concentrate on journalistic skills to strengthen their functioning at a programme held here recently. Inaugurating a three-day training on “Imparting Journalistic Skills to Enhance the Communication Performance of Extension Workers in Scientific Conservation and Management of Land and Water Resources” at the university, K. Palanisami, Director of the Centre for Agricultural and Rural Development Studies, traced the role of media in relation to agriculture over the years. At present, he said the media should focus on the need of the farmers such as weather forecasting, price details, market intelligence, valued added products and crop insurance. S. Thyagarajan, Director, Ambedkar Self Employment Training Institute, Canara Bank, Coimbatore, also spoke.
