E.V. Velu
E.V. Velu, Food Minister: The government was closely monitoring the prices of all essential commodities in the market. It has taken a series of proactive steps to ensure that the poor and the marginalised can access food and other commodities. For instance, rice is sold at Rs. 2 a kg at the fair price shops under the public distribution system in the State. In addition kerosene is also being supplied at a highly subsidised price for the poor. When the prices of edible oil and pulses went up, Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi ordered that these should be supplied, through ration shops at a fair price. The government is also distributing LPG stoves with connections free to the poor.
