PENNATHUR NARAYANAN (Born 01-27-1914) was a resident of Foxboro, Ma. Passed away on Mar 11, 2008 at the age of 93. Anna, as he was fondly known to everyone, was born in the state of Tamil Nadu, India, and had two brothers and two sisters. He was a gre at scholar and got his Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Madras supplemented by a higher degree in Electrical Engineering from Indian Institute of Science. He joined the Madras State Electricity Board and worked his way up to become a Superintending Engineer of the Madras State Electricity system. In his early days at the Board, he worked indefatigably to bring electrification to a lot of rural towns in South India. His expertise in the grid protection system was so well recognized th at after retirement he was invited to the Tanzania Electric Supply Corp. to set up protection systems for the whole country. But the better part of "Anna" was to educate the rest of the family to learn and speak better English. He used to have sessions i n the family room where people (invited or not) came to have a duel of words with him. He never failed! He was an avid and enthusiastic gardener and spent hours in the yard, tending to the needs of the plants meticulously. Later in life, he picked up San skrit as his avocation and taught himself all the nuances and the intricacies of this "Language of the Gods" He helped people translate and transliterate many of the "Slokas" in Sanskrit. He leaves behind not only fond remembrances but a whole lot of peo ple (too numerous to mention) who will have a soft corner for him in their hearts.106.186111111111PENNATHUR NARAYANAN (Born 01-27-1914) was a resident of 00461603529558HO27-Mar-2008 06:53:24 pmDEATHCH CL-50043WORDBOLDnWORDSSri R.
