BANGALORE: Security at the Vidhana Soudha and places around it is being tightened. It is getting state-of-the-art security system, perhaps the first in the country.
The “Expandable Security System” being put in place by the Karnataka Police Housing Corporation in all the buildings around the Vidhana Soudha, including Vikasa Soudha, Legislators’ House and the High Court, will cost Rs. 15 crore.
To begin with, Vidhana Soudha will get this system with 70 CCTV cameras installed at vantage points and other areas around its periphery.
Speaking to The Hindu, Director-General of Police R. Srikumar said: “the security system will include video surveillance, vehicle identification, baggage-checking etc. This system will come in handy when the Police Department decides to take more security measures in the future, including VVIP security surveillance.”
The Director-General of Police said the system will be initially installed in the Vidhana Soudha in about a month at a cost of Rs. 2.5 crore.
According to Chief Engineer of the Karnataka Police Housing Corporation N.S. Ramesh, “the system will have a central control room which will be operational once the camera network is in place.
