Village youth defy militants

Correspondent

IMPHAL: Despite grim warnings by two major underground organisations, the United National Liberation Front (UNLF) and the Kanglei Yawol Kunna Lup (KYKL) 300 youth of Heirok in Thoubal district of Manipur have got themselves appointed as Special Police Officers (SPOs).

They are now undergoing training at the Police Training Centre, Pangei, and after one month they will be on guard duty in the village armed with .303 rifles.

Additional police and paramilitary personnel are patrolling the village.

The villagers, at a meeting, once again resolved not to allow any militant to enter the village.
