NEW DELHI: A survey in the run-up to the Olympics has revealed that there is a wide difference in interests of men and women who watch the quadrennial sporting extravaganza on television. In a survey conducted by Visa with 4556 samples, it came to the fore that people in the Asia Pacific region like to watch swimming, football and gymnastics. But there is a huge gap in the interest of men and women viewers when it came to watching football. While 53 per cent of the male population preferred to see the action on a football ground, only 34 per cent of women agreed. Men are more interested in baseball (35 per cent) and boxing (22 per cent) than women (23 and 12 per cent respectively), who love to follow gymnastics (44 per cent) and swimming (53) — particularly synchronised swimming (23). In comparison, men’s interest for these sports stood at 35, 45 and 10 per cent, in that order. Another interesting facet of the survey is people over 45 are twice as interested in athletics and baseball as those aged 18-24, while younger people are far more likely to watch hockey, boxing and tennis. — Sports Reporter
