Wesley triumphs

CHENNAI: Wesley HSS (Royapettah) emerged the winner on Friday in the second Shrimathi Prabha Jaidev memorial inter-school football tournament organised by the DAV Mogappair school here.

In the final, Wesley defeated PSBB K.K. Nagar 2-0. Surendarakumar capped his consistent show by putting Wesley on the winning path and Satish Kumar completed the tally.

Dr. R. Subramanian, Reader and Head, Advanced Training and Coaching, Sports University, Chennai was the Chief Guest. Shri Jaidev, Secretary, DAV Group of schools presided over the function and Lalitha Thiagarajan, Principal congratulated the champion team.

Other results: Semifinals: Wesley 2 (Surendarakumar, Dhilipan) bt DAV CBSE (Mogappair) 1 (Satish); PSBB (KK Nagar) 5 bt St. Patrick’s (Adyar) 4 via tie-breaker (Regular time 0-0). Tie-breaker: Anand P., Arunkumar, Yugesh, Anand K., Vijaymakesh scored for PSBB while Soloman, Wayne De Silva, Beschi, Dale De Silva scored for St. Patrick’s. Third place: St. Patrick’s 2 (Wayne De Silva, Lingdo Anul) bt DAV 0.

Facile win for MCC ‘A’

Host MCC ‘A’ scored a facile 5-0 win over Cosmo ‘B’ on the opening day of the MCC-V.P. Thirumoorthy inter-club squash tournament here on Friday.

Presidency Club lost to Cosmo ‘A’ 1-4 (Girish bt Prithvi 9-0, 9-6; R. Srinivasan lost to Yohan 3-9, 1-9; Babu Manohar lost to Imthiaz 2-9, 0-9; Girish & Arvind lost to Imran & Prithvi 15-6, 15-7; Girish & Vinith lost to Ramesh & Imthiaz 12-15, 13-15).

Gandhi Nagar Club bt Madras Race Club 3-1 (Murugesh bt Yathin 9-1, 9-2; Prashanth bt Anuroop 9-1, 10-9; R. Srinivas lost to Richard 10-8, 5-9, 3-9; Balu & Murugesh bt Vijay & Sriram 15-13, 15-8).

Mehra’s effort in vain

Abhishek Mehra’s five for 19 went in vain as Chettinad Vidyashram lost to Don Bosco by nine runs in the TNCA Boost city schools C. Ramaswamy Trophy under-16 cricket tournament held here recently.
