“Simplify tax structure”

NEW DELHI: Trade leaders and taxation experts on Wednesday urged the Empowered Committee of State Finance Ministers to rationalise and simplify the tax structure to ensure a smooth transition to the Goods and Services Tax that is likely to be implemented from April 1, 2010.

The demand was made at a meeting organised by the Confederation of All-India Traders. The traders said there was an urgent need to end the hardships suffered by them on account of having to obtain VAT refunds from the department or in procuring C form.
