Following the meeting, Mr. Chauhan said all basic facilities would be provided in the rural areas before the Commonwealth Games. He said Rs.183 crore had been spent on rural development in 2007-08, while Rs.163 crore would be spent this fiscal. The Minister said the Board had sanctioned 807 development schemes since 2004 when it was re-constituted. But this year alone, it has sanctioned 1,027 schemes for rural areas. Mr. Chauhan also pointed out that schemes worth Rs.795 crore had been sanctioned so far for all-round development of villages. Stating that the Government was taking necessary steps to improve the supply of water and electricity in the rural areas, Mr. Chauhan said six proposals for lighting in villages had been sanctioned and Rs.4 crore would be spent on them. He said the Government was also working towards development of 476 ponds in all the 192 villages of Delhi. The Minister also appealed to the MLAs representing the rural areas to present more proposals for development of these areas at the Board’s meetings.
