Woman shot dead

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: A middle-aged woman was shot dead allegedly by a young man at Narela here on Wednesday.

Reeta Dubey, a native of Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh, had been staying in a rented accommodation at Narela for the past several years along with her family. One of her three daughters was romantically involved with Atul Pandey, a security guard, who stayed in their neighbourhood, the police said.

Though Reeta and her husband Brijesh did not object to their relationship, Atul’s family was against the two getting married. It led to soured relations between the two families and the issue often resulted in heated arguments between them.

On Wednesday morning, Atul’s brother Abhay entered into an altercation with Reeta over the same issue and allegedly shot the woman in a fit of rage. Brijesh too got injured while attempting to catch Abhay. He, however, managed to flee. Reeta was declared brought dead at Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital.

A case of murder has been registered against Abhay at the Narela police station.
