NEW DELHI: Under fire for the water-logged and potholed roads after every heavy shower in the city, MCD Standing Committee chairman Vijender Gupta on Wednesday ordered a vigilance enquiry, seeking details of lapses and recourses for the future. Announcing this at a meeting of the Standing Committee, Mr. Gupta said: “We plan to adopt a zero tolerance approach towards any water-logging complaints in our area, especially on the main roads and link roads. We have ordered a vigilance enquiry to establish the reasons for not meeting the target of de-silting all drains by June 30. We have also sought an enquiry into the 67 cases of potholed roads.” Elaborating on the various measures taken by MCD to address the problem of water-logging, MCD Commissioner K.S. Mehra said de-silting of drains had been carried out fairly successfully and the drive to repair potholes was also on. “In case of heavy rain on a particular day water-logging in some areas is inevitable. However, the water was drained out within four hours. We have also recruited over 300 workers to operate over 600 pumps to drain out the water,” he said.
