Bopanna loses to Dlouhy

NEW DELHI: Rohan Bopanna lost in the second and final qualifying round 2-6, 6-2, 4-6 to third seed Lukas Dlouhy of the Czech Republic in the $576,000 Thailand Open tennis tournament in Bangkok.

Bopanna had recorded a 7-6(5), 6-7(2), 7-5 victory over seventh seed Mikhail Ledovskikh of Russia in the first round of the qualifying event.

He will have a chance to settle score against the Czech as Bopanna takes on the top-seeded pair of Leander Paes and Dlouhy in the first round of doubles, in partnership with Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi of Pakistan.

Meanwhile, Somdev Dev Varman beat seventh-seeded Dominik Meffert of Germany 6-4, 6-2 to move into the pre-quarterfinals of the €30,000 ATP Challenger in Bucharest.

The other Indian Davis Cupper, Prakash Amritraj, restricted to the doubles, made the quarterfinals with Richard Bloomfield of Great Britain on a walk-over from Matteo Marrai and Simone Vagnozzi of Italy.
