Basudeva Somani, Teresian College win titles

Mysore: Inspired performances from Basudeva Somani FGC’s athletes in the men’s section (four golds, two silver and three bronze) and Teresian College in the women’s section (11 golds, two silver and two bronze) helped the teams win the team titles at the 80th annual Mysore University inter-collegiate athletic championship at the University Oval grounds here on Wednesday.

Brijesh (JSS Ooty Road, Mysore), M.R. Nandeesh (PG Sports Council, Mysore) and A.S. Harish (Govt. FGC, KR Nagar) with two golds each, shared the individual title in the men’s section where Mytrhri Aralikatti and S. Shobha (both of Teresian College for Women, Mysore) with three golds each, shared the title in the women’s section.

The results (winners only): Men: 1500m: D. Dilip Kumar (PG Sports Council), 4:12.94s; Half marathon: M. Sanjeev Kumar (Bharathi College, Bharathinagar), 1:15.41s; Decathlon: Ningaraju (Bharathi College, Bharathinagar) 3979 pts..

Long jump: Khaleed Pasha (GFGC, KR Nagar), 6.30m.; 400m: M.C. Naveen Kumar (Govt. Arts College, Hassan), 51.84s; Shot put: M.R. Nandeesh (PGSC), 15.22m; 4x100m relay: Basudeva Somani FGC, 47.70s.

Women: 10,000m: Greta Almaida (Teresian College for Women), 49:43.38s; Discus throw: H.P. Pravitha (Govt. College, KR Nagar), 25.15m; 400m: Manjula (GFGC, Malavalli), 1:16.18s; 1,500m: C. Smitha (Maharaja’s College), 5:09.34s; Long jump: S. Bhavya (MCW Arts), 4.38m; 4x100m relay: Teresian College for Women, 57.87s; 4x400m relay: Teresian College for Women, 5:09.01s; Heptathlon: Mythri Aralikatti (Teresian College for Women), 1736 pts.
