2 persons electrocuted

Staff Reporter

They tried to rescue bullocks that came into contact with illegal electric fence

Tiruvannamalai: An illegal electric fencing laid to protect crops from wild boars, claimed the lives of two persons and two bullocks near here in the wee hours of Saturday.

The victims have been identified as Murugan (45), a farmer, and his son Sakthivel (14) of Keeranur. They were electrocuted when they tried to rescue their bullocks, which had gone to graze in the fields of Subbarayan of the same village, and had come into contact with the fence.

Seeking a permanent solution to the electric fence menace, villagers protested against transporting the dead bodies to the Government Hospital for post-mortem. Following police intervention, they gave up their protest. Subbarayan was arrested.
