Teams formed to prevent smoking

SIVAKASI: Block-level tobacco control teams have been formed in Virudhunagar district to prevent smoking in public places under the Cigarettes and other Tobacco Products Act, 2003.

In a statement, the Sivakasi Deputy Director (Health), S. Balasubramanian, said that the team would conduct at least one surprise raid in each block to prevent smoking in public places and seize cigarettes and tobacco products.

Smokers would be fined up to Rs. 200.
