PUDUKOTTAI: The ‘Bharat Nirman Information Campaign’, a five-day event, sponsored by the Press Information Bureau and the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, was inaugurated here recently.

The campaign brings to light the achievements of various schemes being implemented by the Central and State governments. Various departments have put up stalls, sensitising the masses to the procedure and eligibility norms of various people-oriented programmes.

Speaking at a function to mark the inauguration of the Campaign, the Union Minister of State for Environment and Forests, S. Regupathy, referred to the achievements of the Central government-sponsored schemes in general and the four-laning and eight-laning of National Highways in particular, facilitating the growth of the country’s economy, commerce and trade.

Mr. Regupathy appealed to the people to contribute their mite for enhancing the forest-cover.

Increase forest cover

With the global warming posing a warning to human race, it was high time that the forest cover was increased without any delay.

He also released a book on the achievements of the Central government-schemes being implemented in Tamil Nadu.

The District Collector, Reeta Harish Thakkar and the MLA Rama. Subburam were among those who participated.
