BERHAMPUR: With the withdrawal of bandh call given on Christmas day, Orissa as well as India were saved from much international disrepute, said Governor Murali Chandrakant Bhandare. During his inaugural address at the State-level inter-nursing college National Service Scheme (NSS) on Sunday at the nursing college in the MKCG Medical College campus, Mr Bhandare felt the bandh call on Dec 25 given by the Swami Laxmanananda Sraddhanjali Samiti in the State had given him sleepless nights. “Like me the Chief Minister was also having tense and sleepless night,” he added. According to him, he and the Chief Minister were worried about the fact that the bandh call may have led to violence and communal tension on a day of festivity. “At a time when the whole world was coming together to stand behind India in its war against terrorism any unfortunate incident in the State due to the bandh on Dec 25 would have been a thing of disrepute for the country and would have jeopardised world unity against terror,” he said. According to him the voice of the majority who wanted communal harmony and amity led to the withdrawal of the bandh call. The NSS cadets from 13 nursing colleges are participating in the State-level NSS camp for nursing cadets. The camp would end on Friday. Vice-Chancellor of Berhampur University Bijay Kumar Sahu, assistant programme adviser of NSS regional centre Subhash Chand and NSS coordinator of Berhampur University, Jhansi Singh were also present.
