BERHAMPUR: The five-day long annual music and dance festival of Sri Thyagaraja Bhakta Samithi of the city concluded on Sunday evening. The attraction on the concluding day was Kuchipudi dance recitals. It was a festival of classical music, devotional kirtan and worship of saint Thyagaraja. Devotees of Thyagaraja as well as the lovers of classical music took part in this festival of devotional and classical music. There were recitals of ‘Pancharatna kirtan’ composed by Thyagaraja. Local artistes of classical music presented programmes. They included veterans like T. Subhalaxmi, who enthralled the audience with her Carnatic recital on Veena. Noted Carnatic vocal and instrumental artistes from Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu enthralled the audience with their performances every evening at the music festival held at Arya Vysya Kalyan Mandapam. On Saturday flute recital by Kalaimamani Sri Chittoor Venkatesan of Chennai was the main attraction. He was accompanied by Tiruvellur Parthasarathy on violin, Tirukko Karanam R.Krishna Murty on Mridangam and Ernakulam S.Ramkrishnan on Ghatam. Since 1947 the music festival is being held every year to keep alive creations of saint Thayagaraja and carnatic music among city dwellers.
