Rules and regulations that are being laid for a safer and secure life are missing at some places, where people from higher strata of society are involved. For example we see every now and then people being stopped for not wearing helmet, crossing zebra cross and talking on cell phones while driving. But rules are hardly followed when it comes to taking influential people to the task. Four wheelers having red lights on the rooftops should be brought under the ambit of law. They flout every rule from fastening seat belts to keeping window screen transparent. There is no doubt that it is all because the high society takes it as a social symbol and not ready to compromise even though it may cause us a deep trouble much the same way as it happened in Mumbai 26/11 episode. Bijay Mishra Cuttack Child labourWe are experts in making laws but we do not take any interest in their implementation. Prohibition on child labour is still far away from being imposed. Child labourers are working in hotels and industries. They are yet to avail the benefits for which they are entitled. Now government is embarking upon many populist measures keeping the forthcoming elections in mind. I feel child labour should get its due in agendas of different political parties. At the same time government should take stringent step by constituting squads to conduct raids in industrial area where child labourers was rampant. Monalisa Mohanty Cuttack Shoe attackThe unusual encounter of American President George Bush with an Iraqi journalist Muntadar al-Zeidi made headlines of every newspaper and news channela. I really appreciate the shoe-attack farewell given by the Iraqi journalist. He did a great job by throwing shoes on Bush and telling him how unpopular he was during his tenure for his plan of invasion in Iraq. Besides suffering of Iraqi people, innocent American soldiers lost their lives for nothing due to Bush’s ill ambition. Thus Mr.Bush and his whole cabinet should feel ashamed and own responsibilities for the war. Whatever the real hidden cause may be, but that Iraqi journalist has really done something for all those people who suffered due to this war. Deepak Gudla Cuttack Health and hygieneHealth and hygiene of a community is a fundamental right of people in every democratic country and its maintenance is the prime responsibility of the authorities concerned like public health department and municipal bodies in the urban areas. But it is seen that in an old municipality like the Cuttack Municipal Corporation, authorities are callous in this respect. Till about a month back drinking water problems in CDA area under CMC deteriorated. The drinking water demand in the area is increasing by day. In the rainy season, though enough water was available, its quality was a concern. Sometimes turbid-muddy water is being supplied for drinking purpose that jeopardizes public health. There was every possibility of outbreak of water borne diseases like dehydration, typhoid and jaundice. Though the problem has been brought to the notice of the authorities, no steps were taken to redress the problem. But at present the quantity of water supply is scant. So the inhabitants of the area are passing through untold miseries. In this context I would like to take the above problem to the notice of the concerned authorities of the CMC and CDA through your newspaper, so that necessary actions may be made available to prevent outbreak of any epidemic. Alaka Singh Cuttack
