Call for alternative health workforce
Special Correspondent
CHENNAI: The time is ripe for creating an alternative health workforce for rural and underserved urban India, participants at a two-day workshop on ‘Alternate human resources for health in India: innovative models for improving primary care,’ have concluded.
Articulating their consensus in a statement, they said India must develop opportunities for nurses and doctors to advance their abilities for providing care in rural settings.
Additional training
This could be done through additional training and by providing career opportunities for promotions for nurses and doctors, who are supported by technicians and managers.
The workshop was conducted by the IKP Centre for Technologies in Public Health (ICTPH), a non-profit organisation focussing on innovating and piloting equitable health systems for rural populations.
