The grant will be utilised in three years In the first phase, VAL will set up alumina refinery BHUBANESWAR: Institute of Minerals and Materials Technology IMMT) on Monday signed a memorandum of understanding with Vedanta Aluminium Limited (VAL) for collaboration in research projects. The VAL would sponsor research programmes in the areas of beneficiation of bauxite for higher aluminium recovery, extraction of materials and plant audit for enhanced efficiency of processing plants and environment pollution management through recovery of value added products from the toxic waste from aluminium refineries and other industrial waste like red mud and fly ash, said IMMT source here. In the first phase VAL which is setting up alumina refinery at Lanjigarh in Kalahandi district will provide a financial support of Rs. 1 crore to IMMT to scale-up projects in some of the identified research areas for mutual benefit, it said. “The grant will be utilised by IMMT within a maximum three years. The company may further enhance the support depending upon progress of work and requirement,” IMMT officials said. At IMMT the deal is viewed as an important event expertise of the scientists of IMMT-CSIR has been recognised and preferred over and above other Indian and foreign technologies and organisations. IMMT director B.K. Mishra and Chief Operating Officer of VAL Mukesh Kumar were present on the occasion.
