DCA Secy seeks support for more women in co boards
Our Bureau
NEW DELHI, March 30
DR. P.L. Sanjeev Reddy, Secretary, Department of Company Affairs (DCA), has sought the co-operation of Mr. Kumar Mangalam Birla, the Chairman of Aditya Birla group and the chief of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) panel on corporate gove
rnance, in assisting the Government to work out a provision for adequate representation of women on the board of directors of companies to remove gender bias and better corporate governance.
While evincing interest, Mr. Birla expressed his reservation on the ground that to find a pool of women professionals in corporate governance was very difficult at the present juncture.
He, however, extended his support to the idea as
the new millennium would see the triumph of women in all spheres.
The Government has also planned to set up a global centre for corporate excellence. This was stated by Dr. Reddy in a meeting with a delegation led by Mr. Birla, here.
