Shrimp arrivals remain low

Our Bureau

CHENNAI, March 30.

SHRIMP exporters are gearing up to cut prices, with the shrimp arrivals expected to commence in a few weeks time, according to market sources.

Buyers said that with arrivals remaining low, no major contracts had been concluded since they hoped to keep prices down. Prices of 16/20 counts of black tiger ranged around $17.80- 17.90 per kg in Andhra Pradesh, and raw material costs around Rs. 490-50 0 per kg, 30 counts.

Prices were much lower from the ponds in Calcutta areas as arrivals had commenced. The stocks fetched around $17.10-17.40 per kg, said market sources.

On the east coast, according to market sources, major

arrivals may be expected in April/May. Pending arrivals, major

contracts have not been concluded, and purchases have been

restricted to regular packers.
