`Fair' drive to woo participants from W. Asia, Africa

Vimala Vasan

ABU DHABI, March 30

A PROMOTIONAL campaign has been launched to elicit participation from West Asia and African countries to two prestigious events in India _ `Heimtextil Tex-Styles India' exhibition and `Ambiente India', the international trade fair for consumer goods, to be held from October 5-8, at the Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.

Mr. B.P. Padhi, Resident Director of the India Trade

Centre in Dubai told Business Line on Thursday that efforts are being made to elicit participation from international buyers in the region, to participate in the two fairs, which are set to launch India as a major global venue for international trade fai rs.

``We are talking to officials at the chambers of

commerce and industry, as well as the Indian and foreign embassies in the region. We will also be mailing details of the two events, as well as sending out posters. Plans are also on to put in spot advertisements on television at the prime time, prior to the event,'' he said.

The fairs follow a decision by the Indian Government to relax tariff rates for many imported items, and as such, was expected to draw good international response, Mr. Padhi said.

The events are a results of a joint venture effort

by Messe Frankfurt Trade Fairs India Private Ltd, and India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO). Messe Frankfurt is the world's oldest and leading trade fair organiser and Messe Frankfurt Trade Fairs India Private Ltd is a 100-per-cent subsidiary of the

parent company, set up to introduce high quality trade fairs in India. It aims to bring its famous brand events to the sub-continent and make them an international platform for business in the region.

The textiles exhibition is the third of its brand events and will be its biggest show in the country. India had also been a major participant at the Heimtextil show, which takes place annually in Frankfurt, and was the star event of Messe Frankfurt, the official said.

``Ambiente India'', the other joint event by the two

organisations, is expected to become the link in the worldwide chain of consumer goods fairs organised by Messe Frankfurt. It premieres in India this year and is aimed at creating an exclusive international meeting point in India _ the world's

fastest developing and largest consumer market.
