Shonkh launches Edndokit-MRG

MUMBAI, March 30

BANGALORE-BASED Shonkh Technologies Ltd on Thursday launched its first medical technology product, Endokit-MRG.

According to Mr. Ravi Krishnamoorthi, Director, Business Development, Shonkh Technologies Ltd, Endokit-MRG is a medical report generator giving complete patient information management system. Endokit-MRG can scan and store images generated by optical fib res during endoscopy on a hard disk or floppy.

The product is priced between Rs. 1.5 lakhs and Rs. 4.5 lakhs.

Shonkh Technologies has entered into a tie-up with Prime Technologies Ltd, a division of the $6-billion industrial group ETA Ascon. Under the $6-million all cash arrangement, Shonkh will transfer technological knowhow to manufacture Endokit-MRG while ret aining the back-end support and servicing. Prime Technologies holds exclusive rights to manufacture the product in the UAE and marketing rights in GCC.

Shonkh Technologies has applied for a patent for Endokit-MRG, Mr. Krishnamoorthi said.

The company is also working on other medical technologies such as laproscopy, cystoscopy.

Earlier, Speaking to Business Line, Mr. Krishnamoorthi said Shonkh Technologies was working on a prototype for security systems in airports and will be taking up a pilot project for the Government of India very soon. The prototype is already 80 per cent complete.

Mr. Krishnamoorthi said that the concept of airport security systems was coined 18 months ago and work on the project was given impetus since the hijacking of IC 814 in December, 1999.

``What we are proposing is that there would be a boarding card with a barcode or a magnetic stripe such as in foreign countries. As one is going through the security area the boarding card has to pass through a reader where your photograph is taken and c ross-checked with details regarding your boarding pass, your seat number and your flight number with a main database. The photograph would help identify the people if required on a later date,'' Mr. Krishnamoorthi said.

According to Mr. Krishnamoorthi, the Indian Government does not have to make an initial investment since even a nominal charge of Rs. 50, as airport security across all airports, to every air passenger would recover the costs in seven days.
