HEWLETT-PACKARD Company has launched a concerted effort throughout the Asia-Pacific region to establish its dominance in the emerging e-services arena.

Addressing a press conference, Mr. John Fogarasi, Director E-Services and Marketing for South Asia, said that HP, in the last three months, has launched several strategic initiatives involving major investments, strategic alliances and customer deploymen t of e-services.

The initiatives include the region's first implementation of direct market access trades using the Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) by the New Zealand Stock Exchange (NZSE), a business and technology alliance between HP and ECnet to fuel the developme nt of Internet supply chain solutions for high-tech manufacturers and plans to set up a e-speak development centre at Malaysia, Mr. Fogarasi said.

According to him, HP is also introducing JumpStart for start-ups, a comprehensive package of hardware, services and financing solutions to speed up the formation of high-technology startup companies in Singapore. It is also setting up E-ontap.com, an end -to-end mission critical hosting infrastructure for secure and scalable e-services at a cost of $7 millions. The infrastructure enables start-up companies developing e-services solutions to develop and bring their products and services to market in a sho rter time, he said.

``These investments and alliances underline HP's seriousness to become an e-services leader both in the Asia-Pacific and around the world. With these initiatives, we have effectively established the foundation for software developers and our customers in the region to adopt the latest technologies, such as e-speak and WAP, to create new differentiators and competitive tools for their business,'' Mr. Fogarasi added.
