Taj GVK to invest Rs 40 cr for upgradation

HYDERABAD, April 22

THE Taj GVK Hotels and Resorts has decided to invest Rs. 40 crores this year for upgrading two-five star hotels, Taj Krishna (formerly Krishna Oberoi) and Taj Residency (Holiday Inn Krishna).

A joint venture of the Taj and GVK groups, the Taj GVK Hotels has commissioned the US-based hotel design firm, Wilson Associates, to redesign the two hotels.

According to Mr. R.K. Krishna Kumar, Managing Director, Taj Group of Hotels, and Mr. G.V.K. Reddy, Chairman of Taj GVK Hotels, in addition to upgrading the rooms and lobbies at the two hotels, it was proposed to introduce new concepts in food and beverag es.

Addressing mediapersons, Mr. Krishna Kumar said the focus of his group would be on Andhra Pradesh, particularly Hyderabad. It wanted to develop a resort with a golf course on the Himayatsagar route with GVK.

The Taj group, which has taken over the Falaknuma Palace on long lease, wants to invest about Rs. 250 crores over the next three years for developing the interiors of the palace and add 80 more rooms. Work on the interiors would be entrusted to a London- based firm, he said.
