Tea market firm at Coimbatore
COIMBATORE: Despite the dip in the rate of high-priced teas by Rs. 2-3 per kg, market demand remained generally firm at the weekly auctions held here.
Market sources said the drop in prices was largely due to the huge quantities of the high-priced teas that were available in the market. However, only good quality teas were moving and a conscious effort was being made to improve on quality.
At least 90 per cent of the 5.89 lakh kg of tea on offer was taken up. About 3.83 lakh kg was of the leaf and the rest was of the dust. The prices of both the CTC leaf and dust moved up, though all teas were selling at better rates compared to the earlie
r week.
It is reliably learnt that better varieties of the dust were coming in and the quantity of dust on offer is tending to increase gradually. From about 1.91 lakh kg on offer the previous week, it has moved to 2.06 lakh kg last week and is expected to
move to 2.13 lakh kg in the coming week. -- Our Bureau
