Steel trading portal launched

HYDERABAD, May 28

PYXIS Technology Solutions Ltd, part of Pyxis Technology Inc, has launched steelexchangeindia.com, an online forum for the steel industry.

The Managing Director of Pyxis Technology, Mr. Satish Kumar, said steelexchangeindia will bring in the steel community -- both the manufacturers and the trading community -- on a single platform and would offer more opportunities.

The vertical portal has two categories -- members and non-members. While the members can participate in the trading process, the latter can only browse through the information. Right from enquiring about the quality and price of steel which t he members want to buy or sell to placing the order, everything is done at the click of the mouse on the site, the Vice-President, Technology, Pyxis, Mr. Raghu Rao, said.

The company hopes to set up offices in 22 steel trading centres across the country by July 2000 and targets about 20,000 registrations by March 2001. Thought the initial investment in the portal is about Rs. 1.5 crores, the firm plans to invest about Rs. 11.5 crores for the project, Mr. Satish Kumar said.

Pyxis Technology, located in the Visakhapatnam Export Processing Zone (VEPZ) is promoted by Vizag Profiles Ltd. The company offers e-commerce solutions.
