Krishna to unveil vision document for Karnataka

BANGALORE, June 4

A 10-YEAR vision document for Karnataka is to be unveiled by the Chief Minister, Mr. S.M. Krishna, here on Monday to coincide with the Global Investors Meet.

Mr. Krishna would propose his blueprint for 2009 spelling out the goals and strategies to be set in key socio-economic areas, officials here said. This would touch industry, education, infrastructure, power, railways, irrigation.

The two-day meet is due to be inaugurated by Mr. Yashwant Sinha at Vidhana Soudha. A few MoUs are likely to be signed, especially for the State's optical fibre backbone projects. Currently, the Industries Department has finalised the probable projects th at would to be included in the MoU list.

About half a dozen key players, including Reliance, Enron, BPL, Lucent, AirTel and Zee have plans to put up OFC networks across the State, totally estimated at around Rs. 1,000-1,200 crores.

Among the projects that are likely to get a formal seal of approval are TVS Suzuki's expansion plan, Reliance's Rs. 1,600-crore STP at Electronics City and several others cleared by the high-level committee recently. Mr. Venu Srinivasan, Mr. Mukesh Amban i and Mr. Vikas Kaslival are also expected to participate at the meet, officials said.

The State also plans to formally pose the 16 projects readied by it for private investments. These are expected to notch investments worth Rs. 3,500 crores. The Industries Department has received around 120 small and medium proposals totally worth Rs. 11 ,000 crores and these are to be taken up for clearance by mid-June.
