Night pilotage at Kochi Port

REPRESENTATIVES of trade, port users and other agencies concerned recently discussed recovering cancellation charges for night pilotage at the Kochi port. A representative of the Steamer Agents Association said night pilotage was available in Chennai, Tuticorin and New Mangalore ports. There were no restrictions and no recovery of any cancellation charges. He said the same system should be followed in the Kochi port.

Port Trust officials said the plan for vessel movement is finalised during the daily berthing meeting at the port's traffic department at 10.50 a.m. Changes in the plan are accepted till 9 pm. But after that, no change is possible as staff deployment has to be arranged for sailing the vessels.

However, the Port Trust Chairman, who was present at the meeting, wanted to know about the practices in other ports, as pointed out by steamer agents. He directed the Traffic Manager to collect the relevant details for discussion at the next meeti ng. -- Our Bureau
