Our Bureau
VISAKHAPATNAM, June 18
EVEN as efforts have been initiated to privatise Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd (RINL), the steel major crossed a significant milestone on Saturday when it became the first integrated steel plant in the country to receive the total ISO 9002 certificate coveri
ng almost its entire gamut of operations.
The certificate has been given for RINL's production of a ``comprehensive range of iron and steel products'', coke and coal chemicals and other saleable products, generation of power along with supporting service departments and marketing of all saleable
products, including power.
Dr. B. N. Singh, RINL Chairman-cum-Managing Director, received the certificate from Mr. Vincent Labauve D' Arifat, Regional Chief Executive of BVQI, at a function at the plant.
Dr. Singh said: ``Innovation is part of life in Visakhapatnam Steel Plant and, being the most eco-friendly plant in the country, the day that it would receive the coveted ISO 14000 certification is not far off.'' He said this recognition would further en
hance the image of RINL in the global market.
The company had undertaken capital repairs to major units of the plant, such as blast furnace, steel melt shop and coke ovens, Dr. Singh added.
Mr. S. K. S. Narayan, RINL Director (Commercial), Mr. C. Appa Rao, Director (Personnel), and Mr. Doki, Director (Finance), spoke on the occasion.
