The LIC revamp

Subramanyan Sundaresan, e-mail

I would like to share my comments regarding the recommendations on LIC's restructuring.

The suggestion to split the post of chairman into two may follow the Cadbury and Hampel reports and the trends in global management practices. Our public sector banking industry

is also toying with a similar idea. As it is, the government finds it difficult to fill-in the chairman's post. How will they hunt for two for each organisation?

The move to have four managing directors is amusing. The Malhotra committee observed that the central office is over-staffed and needs to shed its surplus. Even the present two is one far too many.
