Philips set-top boxes for Zee
BANGALORE: Consumer electronics giant Philips announced a tie-up with Zee TV for providing set-top boxes that would help the latter in starting its `direct-to-operator' plan, designed to provide better channel service to end consumers.
Philips is providing Zee with set-top boxes with the conditional access system Mediaguard and interactive middleware Mediahighway, which is already being used by six million set top boxes around the world, said a company press release.
Zee will now be able to encrypt the signal using this technology and help bringing premium contents to its affiliated cable networks, the release said.
Philips is also providing Zee with satellite uplink equipment. This will help Zee to offer more channels through the same satellite transponder, which they are also using for their present analog channels.
Philips is already providing advanced nine channel DVB MPEG-2 compression system for Zee's satellite uplink in Singapore. System components include the Philips StreamFlux Video Encoder, renowned for its picture quality and compression efficiency, as and
the flexible StreamFlux TokenMux Multiplexer, the release added. -- Our Bureau
