New directors on Tata Tea board
Our Bureau
CALCUTTA, June 20
MR. Ken Pringle, CEO of The Tetley Group of the UK, has been inducted on the board of Tata Tea Ltd as a non-executive director. Tata Tea clinched a deal to acquire The Tetley Group in February.
Two senior Vice-Presidents of Tata Tea, Mr. Percy Siganporia, and Mr. Avijit Mazumdar, have been elevated and designated as EDs, according to an official press note issued here on Tuesday.
The appointments were cleared by the Tata Tea board on June 16, when it met in Mumbai under the Chairmanship of Mr. Ratan Tata to take on record the results for the year to March 31, 2000.
Bombay House, it may be mentioned, has since started reckoning Tata Tea and Tetley as a `virtual company'. The appointment earlier of Mr. R.K. Krishna Kumar, MD of India Hotels and Vice-Chairman of Tata Tea, as non-executive Chairman of Tetley and the in
duction now of Mr. Pringle on the Tata Tea board are, according to company sources, the initial steps to make the `virtual company' concept meaningful.
The impending association of a few more Tata nominees with the Tetley operations, in either executive or non-executive capacity, will take the process a stage further.
