Our Bureau

MUMBAI, June 23

AVIATION and Airport Security Consultants (AASC), a private company, based in the UK, providing training in aviation security, is setting up shop in India.

Speaking to presspersons, Captain C. Chakravarti, Director, AASC said the company's main objective in India would be to enhance the skills of airport and aviation personnel by providing specialised training courses in security.

Mr. Jay Purshottam, Director, AASC said the company would be making an initial investment of about Rs. 5 crores. It plans to set a training institute in Mumbai shortly.

AASC is expecting to grow at a rate of 75 per cent in three years with the first year target at 40 per cent. Mr. Purshottam said that since there were not many competitors in India in this field, the company was expected to grow phenomenally.

Mr. Purshottam said the training institute would be affiliated to the Civil Aviation Ministry. The courses offered by the company are X-ray, induction training, documentation training, security catering training, professional body guarding for VIPs and a ircrew training.

The training would also be extended to the public and individuals can register for any of the courses, Mr. Purshottam said.

The training programmes which cost about $10,000 to $15,000 a day would be lowered to $2000 to $3000 in India. The five-day course in X-ray would cost Rs. 10,000, he added.

AASC, whose clientele include Virgin Airlines would be setting up security arrangements for the airline which is to operate flights from Delhi this year.
