Fishing for success
ON a Sunday morning along the Tawa river some Adivasi fishermen were displaying the nets and inflatable rubber tubes left behind by fish poachers overnight. The fishermen were debating on the next step when Fagram, one of the young, outspoken leaders sai d, ``We will track them down and if they apologise we will leave them alone. Otherwise ...'' Fagram shuts up.

More ground to cover
FROM Khategaon bloc in Dewas district to Harangaon and Chandpura villages is about 22 to 25 kms but the Trax took well over five hours to make the distance. It had to bump over sun-baked mud road, foot-deep trenches and two rivulets w hich flow to the brim when the rains hit the area. This year the rains arrived ahead of schedule and disappeared and everyone is looking up at the skies for signs of a revival. Readings of the weather bureau make little sense to these people who h ave no access to the media.

Beyond basics
Coaching classes outside schooling hours that are partially funded by the adivasis themselves has ushered in a new commitment to education.
