Multipurpose berth inaugurated at VPT

VISAKHAPATNAM, July 3

PROF. Rajnath Singh, Union Minister for Surface Transport, has inaugurated a multipurpose berth in the outer harbour of the Visakhapatnam Port Trust on Monday.

The multipurpose berth, built at an estimated cost of Rs. 37.70 crores, is being extended by another 165 m at an estimated cost of Rs. 23.88 crores.

The Union Minister also laid foundation stone for the extension of the multipurpose berth. The Minister has commissioned several projects in the VPT on Monday.

Mr. Hukum Deo Narayan Yadav, Union Minister of State for Surface Transport, has commissioned two 10-tonne electric wharf cranes in the VPT. Similarly, he has commissioned two 50-tonne and one 30-tonne bollard pull shipping tugs.

The tugs were built by Hindustan Shipyard Ltd at an estimated cost of Rs. 46 crores.

Mr. K. Vijayarama Rao, Minister for Roads, Buildings and Ports, Andhra Pradesh, and Mr. R. Vasudevan, Secretary, Ministry of Surface Transport, participated.
