Liberian ship runs aground near Mumbai
Our Bureau
MUMBAI, July 3
A 4,500-grt Liberian vessel, m.v. Ventura, en route to Alang for scrapping, ran aground near Malabar Point off Mumbai, early on Monday morning.
All seven crew members of the ship are safe, sources at the Coast Guard, which flew its helicopter to the site, said.
The grounding followed the `Ventura' getting separated from `Lauzurit', the tug which was towing it, around 4 am today.
A second tug has arrived at the scene to team up with the `Lauzurit' in freeing the stranded ship and taking her to Alang.
The extrication process would happen during the high-tide late tonight.
Coast Guard officials said, the ship's crew were already safe aboard the `Lauzurit', when their chopper reached the area.
