Good demand at Kochi tea sale

KOCHI, July 16

A GOOD general demand persisted for almost all varieties at the Kochi tea auction. In the dust category, high priced CTCs remained steady, while other good liquoring medium CTCs were fully firm to sometimes dearer.

The quantity on offer was 7,63,000 kg and orthodox highgrown dust was higher by Rs. 5-10, while good quality medium orthodox barely remained steady. The best CTC varieties commanded prices between Rs. 45 and Rs. 75, medium CTC realised Rs. 38-43 and poor er type were quoted at Rs. 26-33.

Highgrown BOPD fetched Rs. 93-109 and medium BOPD realised Rs. 31-37. Secondaries and residuals were quoted Rs. 20-25 and Rs. 16-17, respectively. The leaf sale at the auction also witnessed a good general demand and the quantity on offer was 5,07,000 kg .

Orthodox highgrowns and medium brokens were fully firm to sometimes dearer and fannings remained steady. CTCs also witnessed a steady to dearer market, especially good quality ones.

The best Nilgiri varieties commanded prices between Rs. 57 and Rs. 64. Medium orthodox and plain orthodox realised prices between Rs. 42 and Rs. 62 and Rs. 38-42, respectively. The best CTC leaf fetched prices between Rs. 43 and Rs. 50, while medium CTC were quoted at Rs. 37-42.

In the dust category, Nonsuch BOPD came in the top list quoting Rs. 109 followed by Kodanad BOPD-CL with Rs. 95.90. In the leaf varieties, Welbeck OP was in the top position with Rs. 108.30 followed by Burnside OP quoting Rs. 107.
