Petrol dealers in Maharashtra call off strike
Our Bureau
MUMBAI, July 16
THE petrol dealers in Maharashtra today called off their strike following the appeal made by Mr. Ram Naik, Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas.
The dealers had suspended lifting products from refineries from Saturday following the failure of their talks with oil companies on inspection of products.
The dealers wanted the products to be tested for purity before loading them into tanks. They are of the view that dealers are blamed for adulteration of products, purity of which is not certified at the refinery gate. The oil companies, however, were not
ready for such tests.
A statement from Mr. Ram Naik's office today said the Minister had called the Maharashtra Petrol Dealers Federation for a meeting on July 21, 2000. The Federation had agreed to withdraw the strike, the statement added.
