Conexant Systems to implement V.44 technology
Our Bureau
MUMBAI, July 16
CONEXANT Systems has tied up with Cisco Systems and Hughes Network Systems to implement a new industry standard V.44 compression technology.
To be finalised this month by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), V.44 will speed data throughout by 20 per cent to 60 per cent when downloading Web pages and other mixed-media content compared to the existing V.42 BIS compression standard,
said a press release.
Created for the satellite industry to maximise bandwidth, and developed by Hughes, V.44 technology has been licensed by Conexant and Cisco. It will be incorporated into Conexant's full line of next-generation client-side and central-site dial-up modem ch
ips.
According to the release, Conexant and Cisco are jointly supporting the new V.92 dial-up modem standard which significantly speeds connection and download transfer rates while adding the ability to receive and initiate phone calls during a dial-up modem
session. V.92 will make it easier for Asian manufacturers to implement the V.44 standard.
Conexant also plans to enhance its V.92 offering with additional capabilities such as remote diagnostics to cut the technical support costs for Asia's modem customers, it said.
Conexant will be hosting Plugfest, a testing event, in September to promote inter-operability between V.92 products from a wide variety of manufacturers.
