`Dadiseth is someone we know and respect'
Our Bureau
MUMBAI, Aug. 10
MR. Ratan N. Tata, Chairman of the Tata group, today ascribed the appointment of Mr. K.B. Dadiseth on the board of Indian Hotels Co Ltd (IHCL), to the need for independent directors at Tata companies.
``We needed independent directors; all our boards today need independent directors. Mr. Dadiseth is someone we know and respect,'' Mr. Tata told Business Line soon after the AGM of Tata Electric Companies (TEC).
Asked specifically if any offer had been made to Mr. Dadiseth to join the board of the group holding company, Tata Sons Ltd, Mr. Tata said, ``He is coming on the board of Indian Hotels or any other company of Tatas in his own capacity.''
Mr. Tata said that Mr. Dadiseth's contribution at IHCL would be ``as a director, like any of our other directors, bringing his wisdom, knowledge and experience to bear on the affairs of the company''.
He said that Mr. Dadiseth's appointment has ``nothing to do with Unilever''.
``In fact, his offer was made even before he left and his acceptance was also before he left,'' Mr. Tata said.
In May this year, Mr. Dadiseth who was Chairman, Hindustan Lever Ltd (HLL), assumed office as a director at HLL's parent company, Unilever.
