Conexant plans to strengthen base

BANGALORE, Aug. 10

CONEXANT Systems, the North American semiconductor supplier, is planning to strengthen its Indian operations. The company is currently operating in India through a full-fledged office and has an applications lab in Delhi.

Speaking to Business Line, Mr. Ajesh Kapoor, Country Manager, Conexant Systems, said that the company was planning to set up another office in Bangalore.

It is also planning to increase the bandwidth and the manpower base of its applications lab. Conexant's application lab supports its customers both in terms of design and development.

Conexant, which is outsourcing its design requirements from HCL Technologies, is planning to set up its own software design centre next year, he said.

``We are currently evaluating the proposal and are looking at various cities like Pune, Bangalore and Hyderabad. Once the plan is firmed up we may decide on a particular location and the development centre may come up sometime next year.''

The company, which has some 40 customers, is also planning to increase its customer base in India.

Conexant's customers include data products, modem and wireless communications equipment manufacturers such as ITI, C-DoT, Avantel Softech, D-Link, MicroTek, etc.

With the modem and wireless communications marketplace expected to grow at a rapid pace in India, the company is targeting a 100 per cent growth in revenues for the current year. For 1999, the company had clocked a revenue of over $10 millions from India n operations.
